Jane Eyre -- THE NEW MOVIE

I'm looking forward to this.  The trailer and clip do seem to indicate some liberties taken by the filmmakers, but I'm remaining optimistic.  Whether you enjoy the book or prefer to skip it, I also recommend the BBC miniseries, Jane Eyre, fairly dry and fairly accurate, both typically so of the production company.

  1. Oh wow, I'm excited for this. I hope that it shows in Midland.

Which liberties are you referencing? I really didn't see that many.

  2. The preview clip seems to take [I don't remember what off the top of my head] something out of order.... Also, while I support this change, it appears to be emphasizing the ghostly elements.

  3. That's true, although sometimes I think that movies can become overly fascinated with their own special effects capabilities.

  4. I don't mind change--or adaptation--if it improves or at least supports the original story (I can't help but think of the shrunken heads in the third Harry Potter movie). Needless change makes me, well, angry.

  5. this looks like a great version. i hope it's long enough to capture all the crucial elements of the fantastic story.

i started but couldn't make my way through the bbc miniseries adaptation. instead, i found i enjoyed the masterpiece theatre telling of jane eyre very enjoyable. of course, certain liberties were taken there as well; it is to be expected of most books made into movies. still, a very strong recommendation for it. i love the actress used to personify jane and mr. rochester is a good choice as well.
