NEW TO THE BLOG?
This is how it works:

Every day--or nearly so--we all read a chapter of the chosen book.  Every day--or nearly so--I post a series of discussion-aimed questions, quotations, and thoughts drawn from or inspired by the text, its author, or other correlating sources.  Readers answer the questions, post further questions, or make general comments.  It's actually pretty great, but the whole thing only works if you--THE READERS OF THE BOOK AND BLOG--talk about it all with us HERE.

And why?

Well, while I can't make any guarantees, I expect that you'll have a reading experience greater than what you'd pull off on your own.  In fact, I might even be willing to bet you'll get a heck of a lot more from your reading with us than even the average college classroom.

That's how it is for me, anyway.  I've learned way more since college, and by doing stuff like this, than I did in college.  As far as everyone else is concerned....

I can't speak for them.  So, those who've read with me before, here or in a physical classroom, care to post a testimonial?

  1. I voted for 3. Sorry. I know that at least "War and Peace" doesn't have a chance to win, so I wanted my vote still to matter.

And yes, it is great. I had a great college English professor, too, so I would say it's about on par with that. But the nice thing is you are more open to other interpretations than she was. Funny thing about college professors, eh?

  2. Maybe I wouldn't make a very good prof after all....

  3. Hahaha, yeah, I think that's one trait. You have to have the elitism, "Umm... I spent 5 years studying this, and I teach it every year. Therefore, you are unqualified to offer a different interpretation."

  4. I voted for two. I hope that's ok. I couldn't decide between Jane Eyre and Streetcar Named Desire. Streetcar might be my first pick, surprisingly...still thinking. :-)

  5. joe, i think you'd be a great english/literary professor. your ability to be open to those other interpretations would generate a warmer and more interactive classroom--probably loads of discussion too. you may not accomplish as much schoolwork work but seats in your lecture hall would surely be full every class.

p.s. i voted for only one and that was jane eyre. jane eyre!
